Ashley and Kal came to me for their Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor wedding after seeing a couples session I shot in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. Not only was this mountaintop view what they were looking for themselves, but Kelsey and Tyler are their good friends! Come June 15th, we were off to Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor, Maine for their mountaintop wedding, attended by only about 15 of their closest friends and family. The next morning, just as the sun came up, we met together at the Harborside Hotel for an intimate sunrise session - you have to see these!

Kal and Ashley both work in the pharmacy industry, and they met on the job about 7 years ago. Kal is a super smooth guy, the kind who you meet and it feels like you've already been friends for ages. After working a shift together, Kal asked Ashley out for a beer, and, just like that, they've been together ever since! Kal's family grew up coming to Acadia, they even made the sunrise hike on January 1st 2000! While many assumed the world would end because of Y2K, his family was climbing to meet the first time the sun fell on the United States - isn't that beautiful?!
Because of his connection, he brought Ashley here to join in with him. He said the first time he brought her and she ordered beer, wings and a pizza, he knew she was the girl for him! Since then, they've ventured around the world exploring nature's wonders and, of course, knowing the exact right medication to help with altitude sickness. Ashley's favorite qualities of his are his charisma and the passion with which he cares about things and loves people. His favorite qualities about her are her loyalty and her demeanor - "she's my ride or die."
Now, let's talk about this sunrise session! Wedding photography is great and really important, but sometimes couples feel like there's a little bit more they'd like to add to their wedding photography. Some couples add on rehearsal dinner coverage when they have a big family, maybe they're all from out of town and rarely get together - in that case, adding rehearsal dinner photography is a great idea! Other couples will add an engagement photography session, these are great to use for announcements, invitations, and to commemorate the start of this next big life journey. It's also the perfect way to get to know and get comfortable with your photographer! Some, yet, add a bridal boudoir session (I do those too!) or a bridal session in another location. Ashley and Kal, though, really felt a connection to the sunrise and to Acadia, so they opted for a sunrise photography session out on the sand bar - because sunrise was also low tide!
Let's be real, I like sleep, but this sunrise session is one of my favorite couples sessions to date because it is such a special moment to Ashley and Kal. It's also a completely different feel than my usual photography, and that's simply because of the really warm sun and the low, side angle from which it shown. I am a big fan of letting the true colors and mood shine, so that's what I did with these images, I let them be warm, I let them be dramatic, and I let them be completely soaked in a hazy light.
