If you've ever wondered what makes a local photography studio different from a big-box portrait chain, here's my answer: community. Elusive Photography exists because of the families of Falmouth, Portland, and the Southern Maine coast and I've built this business to give back to the same community that trusts me with their most important moments. From sponsoring Little League teams to hosting our annual Holiday Party, being rooted here isn't a marketing strategy for me. It's the whole point.

I'm Emily, and I photograph maternity, newborn, and family sessions from my studio in Falmouth, Maine. In my years photographing families across Southern Maine, I've learned that the best images come from real relationships — and real relationships are built in the community, not just in the studio.

Why a Photography Studio Sponsors Little League

Every spring, you'll find the Elusive Photography name on a Little League jersey or at the Little League fields. We also sponsor the Portland Kids Duathlon and the Falmouth Harvest Fest, and I make charitable donations to local organizations throughout the year.

Why? Because the kids on those teams are the same kids who sat on my studio couch as newborns. The families cheering from the bleachers are families I've photographed on the beaches of Cape Elizabeth and Scarborough. When your business is documenting childhood, supporting the places where childhood actually happens feels less like sponsorship and more like showing up for your own people.

There's a practical side too. I want the investment my clients make in their portraits to circulate back into the community they live in. The Holiday Party: Community in Its Purest Form

Every year, I host an invite-only Holiday Party for my current-year and long-term clients in Maine. There are free family photos, Santa readings, and - my favorite part - a room full of families who all found their way to my studio at some point, mingling like the small-town community we are.

It's the clearest expression of what I'm trying to build. Not transactions. Traditions. Many of the families there have been with me through a maternity session, a newborn session, and years of family portraits along the Maine coast. Watching their kids grow up in front of my camera - and then seeing those same kids run up to Santa at the party - is the best part of this job, full stop.

What Being a Local Business Owner Means to Me

I could run a photography business anywhere. I choose to run it here, in Falmouth, serving Portland and the coastal towns I love - Cape Elizabeth, Yarmouth, Scarborough, Kennebunkport - because this is home. My clients aren't leads in a funnel, they're the people I see at the farmers market, at Harvest Fest, at the duathlon finish line.

That's also why I run my studio the way I do: hand-delivering every print product to my clients' doors, offering wardrobe consultations before every session, and keeping a strict opt-in policy before any family's photos are ever shared. In a small community, trust is everything - and I treat it that way.
