TOP ORGANIC AND NATURAL MADE-IN-MAINE BRANDS FOR BABIES
Elusive Photography is a Maine newborn and baby photographer, which means that I'm constantly coming into contact with new parents and growing families so I know some of the things that they need. As a mom myself, I love when people give me suggestions, lists, or recommendations because that takes away the big burden of having to research every aspect of my kid's life. Cloth diapers took a lot of learning just to choose the right brand and it was draining! I am a big supporter of local businesses, small businesses, and all of the ways that we can get away from unnecessary chemicals and plastics. For baby, finding all-natural and organic brands for children has become important, but also sort of hard!
I've taken the time to round up my favorite Maine-based businesses that offer natural or organic options for your parenthood journey. Take a look and I hope you enjoy!
I don’t know many people who haven’t heard of this brand since it has become more and more mainstream, but it got its start here in Maine! It was born in 1968 by a husband and wife team who couldn’t find any organic items for their children, so they created their own. Still going strong today, they boast a wide range of items that are healthy and organic for your baby. I cannot recommend their products enough!
If you're also a big recycler like me, check out Terra Cycle's Toms of Maine program where you can send in your Tom's product packaging for it to be recycled in a special, small volume process.
This company makes felted wool, cashmere, and organic cotton baby booties from newborn up to three months. Located in North Berwick, Hippy Sticks “knits with nature’s gifts,” and creates not only absolutely beautiful clothing, but functional items as well. Organic baby blankets, baby booties, baby hats, and other things made specifically for your baby will keep them warm through the frigid season, and you can feel good about what is enveloping your sweet little one.
I cannot say enough about this shop located in Casco, Maine. Herbal apothecary, herb farm, and botanical skin care – this shop carries everything all natural and organic you could ever ask for. Their lavender and chamomile talc free baby powder is the stuff of dreams. I find myself using it as much as I put it on my baby!
I know this is all about baby, but I’m going to take a second to talk self care for mama – after all, mama needs to take care of herself so she can give her best to baby. Rooted Earth offers the most magical relaxation bath soak full of organic lavender, rose petals and hops, and when you’re done relaxing in the tub, try their belly balm that reduces and prevents stretch marks. I cannot say enough great things about this shop, and I can’t wait to hear if you feel the same!
Another company from Maine, Two Little Beans Co. specializes in quality handmade baby items. Their prints are all inspired by Maine and the coast of Maine, and incorporate bright colors and organic materials. One of my favorite items is their bibs – they're backed with bamboo terry cloth which is naturally hypoallergenic, anti-bacterial and anti-microbial while still durable enough to withstand spills, splashes and dribbles. No matter what you purchase from there, prepared to be impressed by the quality, durability, and cuteness of all their goods.
This Maine based company makes personalized top knot hats for infants and more. Whether you want a personalized hat to bring your baby home from the hospital or a personalized hat for newborn pictures, this company can meet all your needs!
This bamboo blanket will quickly become your baby's favorite blanket--and yours! Bamboo is ultra soft and temperature regulating which is great for sweaty babes in the summer, as well as being durable and all natural so you don’t need to worry about rough polyester on your baby's skin. Bamboo is an environmentally friendly, renewable resource grown without chemicals, is non-allergenic, and easy care. Each blanket is hand woven in a color of your choice, and sent expeditiously. All of Dreamcatcher Crafts are handcrafted in Maine with love and attention to detail, so when you receive your blanket it is perfect. She even includes instructions on care so your blanket can last forever!
Located in Portland, Maine, this store is one of my absolute favorite stores - not only do they offer a great variety of brands, they have toys and even things to decorate your nursery or toddler's room. They have such a great range of clothes, toys, decorations, and accessories that I cannot possibly list them all, and they also ship all across the US, so don’t be sad if you can’t visit the store. They carry such a variety of brands that you're sure to find a few things that you can’t resist picking up. Boutique Little has cultivated such a great presence in the baby/childrens' market, and I urge you to take a peek at their website, or if you are close, pop in to say hello!
I hope you loved all the shops on this list as much as I do. Did I leave any out that you love? Share below so I can check them out!
